As part of the “Youth on Watch: Standing for and Promoting Human Rights by Students’ Parliaments” project, the team of the Center for Social Policy held initial meetings with representatives of the selected schools from Kraljevo, Vrnjačka Banja and Niš on Tuesday and Wednesday (19-20/09/2023).

The “Dr Đorđe Radić” agricultural and chemical school from Kraljevo, the Catering and Tourism School with the dormitory from Vrnjačka Banja and the secondary Food Processing and Chemical School from Niš are three of a total of 16 secondary schools that have participated in the “Youth on Watch” project since early September, aiming to empower participants in the field of human rights and support them in implementing small actions to promote human rights in local communities.

Throughout the implementation and promotion of the above actions, the students will be supported by local institutions and organizations that have responded to the organizer's call.

Several training sessions will be held by the end of the 2023/24 school year for representatives of the local community and for students and teachers, with the aim of raising competences in the field of human rights, their protection and promotion.

By early October the project team of the Center for Social Policy and Center for Education Policy will have held initial meetings with the representatives of the remaining selected schools across Serbia.

About the “Youth on Watch” project

The Center for Education Policy, in cooperation with the Center for Social Policy, has been implementing the “Youth on Watch: Standing for and Promoting Human Rights by Students’ Parliaments” project since February 2023, with the aim of empowering student parliaments from secondary schools across Serbia to stand for, promote and protect human rights and democracy, including advocacy for social inclusion through education.

The project will last until mid-2025, funded by the European Union. The project aims to empower youth to act towards protecting human rights and democracy, including advocacy of social inclusion through education, through strengthening student parliaments in 16 secondary schools across Serbia.

Project participants will have the opportunity to raise their capacities in the field of human rights protection and thus contribute to the overall welfare and social cohesion of environments where the status of youth is further hampered by the material situation, along with the overall struggle against discrimination based on any grounds.
